The first Student Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in Northeast Florida was established in 1989 at Jacksonville University. The NSPE/FES student Chapter has an average membership of 25 students and meets regularly.  The Chapter has had strong  connections with the Florida Engineering Society and has received the FES Honorable Mention Award during 1997-98 academic year. The student members gain  professional engineering awareness through:

• Participation in the local meetings 

• Participation in the regional meetings 

• Participation in the national meetings 

• Visiting the affiliated institutions prior to transferring  

• Planning and participating in field trips to local industries 

• Attending talks delivered by local professional engineers
